MAS offers local fares deal for GE13 voters

Ahmad Jauhari said MAS was allowing passengers to revise travel plans for the polls without penalty. — File picKUALA LUMPUR, April 17 ― Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is offering special fares to Malaysians who want to fly to their hometowns to cast their ballots in the May 5 general election.
The national airline said bookings on business and economy class may be made from today until April 28 for travel from April 18 to November 30 this year as part of its 13th general election special fares.
It said all-inclusive return economy class tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar, Penang, Terengganu, Kuantan, Kota Baru, Johor Baru and Langkawi start from RM130 while airfares on business class are from RM713 for an all-inclusive return.
The fares for those from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Tawau, Miri, Sibu, Sandakan, Bintulu and Kuching on economy or business class go for as low as RM300 and RM1,713 all-inclusive return, respectively.
The flag carrier said Malaysians can also fly from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Bintulu or Sibu from as low as RM76 all-inclusive return on economy class and from RM1,513 on business class.
Flights from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau, Labuan and Sandakan start from RM136 all-inclusive return on economy class and from RM1,713 on business class, it added.
MAS also said it will waive penalty charges up to July 31 for guests booked on flights between April 27 and May 12 but who wish to defer their travel for GE13.
“We are probably the only airline to allow our passengers to revise their travel plans for the general elections therefore we hope that they can take advantage of this offer,” Malaysia Airlines Group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said in the statement.
“With the special fares and new cabin baggage policy in place, guests can easily plan a day trip back home to vote,” Ahmad Jauhari added.
