Morais’ family wanted confirmation of cause of death before claiming body

KUALA LUMPUR: The refusal to claim the body of deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais by his family was due to the family wanting confirmation on the cause of death, said deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
In a statement on Friday, Noor Rashid also clarified that the DNA confirmation had already been obtained several days ago confirming that there were biological relations between the body and family members.
Noor Rashid had said on earlier on Thursday that police needed more time for DNA tests to be completed before they could release the body.‎
He told reporters during a Hari Raya Haji function at Bukit Aman that the body has been identified from the clothing but police have to adhere to procedures.
A memorial service for Morais was held at the Nirvana Memorial Centre here without his remains.
The wake in Sungai Besi, which ends on Friday, was attended by more than 30 close friends and family members.
The remains of Morais, the former deputy head of the appellate and trial division in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, are still at the National Institute of Forensic Medicine, Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Youngest brother Datuk Richard Morais said on Thursday that the family had not decided when to claim the body.
Morais' body was found in an oil drum dumped into a swamp in USJ1 on Sept 16.
The DPP was abducted after leaving his residence in Menara Duta for work at Putrajaya on Sept 4.‎
