Man who slapped imam is from Kashmir and not an Arab

The suspect who had slapped the second imam of Masjid Negara this afternoon is from Kashmir, India, and not from the Middle East.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18, 2015:

The suspect detained for having slapped the second imam of Masjid Negara is from Kashmir, India, and is not an Arab as earlier believed.

According to Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Zainol Samah, the suspect was initially at the second row during the Friday prayers before pushing his way to the front.

He then grabbed the microphone and slapped imam Mohd Zuhairee Mohd Yatim before taking the imam’s place at the head of the congregation.

“Based on investigation, the 31-year-old suspect appeared delirious as he was seen talking to himself.

“He also claimed to have heard voices asking him to be the imam during the Friday prayers,” Zainol said in a statement today.

The suspect was taken to the Tun HS Lee police station to assist in the investigation.
