Eight-Year-Old Boy Crushed To Death After Resting Under Lorry

Pic: Harian MetroLAHAD DATU: An eight-year-old boy who chose to seek shelter under a 10-tonne lorry while waiting for his school bus, died when the driver moved the vehicle without realizing his presence, thus crushing the boy. 
In the 11am incident at Jalan Kastam Baru here yesterday, the victim, Syarif Junior Langbas Jul Husin was found still clad in his school uniform and his schoolbag. 
His body was almost entirely crushed by the vehicle’s massive tyres, Harian Metro reported.

The lorry driver, who realized that he had run over something, then alighted from his vehicle to check. He was shocked to find the body of the Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan III pupil.

The driver then fled the scene.

It is understood that the boy was waiting for his schoolbus to arrive to take him to school and decided to seek shelter from the midday heat.

The driver is believed to have reversed the vehicle to enable his colleague to conduct some repairs on the lorry.

Lahad Datu district police chief Superintendent Samsudin Mat confirmed the incident and said investigations were ongoing.

“The victim’s remains were sent to the Lahad Datu Hospital for post mortem examination. Police are still tracking down the lorry driver who ran away upon realizing the incident.

“We are actively looking for the suspect. The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Services Department chief, Mohd Apandi Mahmood, said his department received a call at 11,10am on the incident, and six personnel were rushed to the scene.

“When we arrived, we found the victim crushed under the lorry’s wheel. His body was crushed and brain matter was also visible.

“We managed to remove the body after moving the vehicle,” he said.
