Hudud: Kelantan explains to PKR and DAP

Harakahdaily - TS,
A meeting was held Apr 29 morning at PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut for the PAS-led Kelantan state government representatives to brief its Pakatan Rakyat partners on the implementation of the Islamic Criminal Offence II Enactment in Kelantan 1993 that was put in place before the birth of Pakatan Rakyat.

Kelantan deputy Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Abdullah said the discussion was mainly on giving explanation to PKR and DAP on the state government’s intention to table two private members’ bills in parliament to allow it to enforce the 1993 enactment.

PKR was represented by its two vice president Tian Chua and Sivarasa Rasiah, meanwhile deputy secretary general Ngeh Khoo Ham, Kluang MP Liew Chin Tong and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok represented the DAP in the discussion today.

“From what we have explained, in my opinion, is positive… they understand what Kelantan government wants to implement, although they disagree, but we respect. At least, they understand our stand and decision,” he told Harakahdaily after the meeting.

Mohd Amar said it was normal to have different opinions, but what mattered was the respect to each other’s views.

He added that the Kelantan state government is prepared to give further explanation on the 1993 enactment, including BN.

Meanwhile, Liew said DAP had made known their views in the meeting that hudud is not part of Pakatan Rakyat’s agenda.

Despite the differences, Liew stressed that all parties are still searching for a common point and the best solution over the controversy.

Two days ago, PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar had appealed to the critics of hudud to at least respect the party’s democratic right to table the private members’ bills in parliament.

“We are willing to face the result,” he stressed.
