Lim: Parliament will dissolve March 25, or earlier

Harakahdaily,

Mar 15: As the clock ticks for the automatic expiry of Barisan Nasional's mandate on April 27, 2013, predicting the dissolution of the parliament has become easier for most observers.

According to DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, prime minister Najib Razak will announce the dissolution of the 12th Parliament on March 25 "although it could be earlier in the next ten days or even later".

"Finally, the battle of the century in the 13GE should begin in a matter of days rather than weeks," Lim said.

The veteran politician, describing an automatic dissolution on April 27 as "unprecedented", said the Malaysian political scene was undergoing "not ordinary times".

He said this was why Najib put the country "on an election mode" since taking over as the sixth PM in 2009.

"If we are in ordinary times, the 13th general elections would have been held already and Malaysians would have known whether Najib has finally his own mandate to be the Prime Minister of Malaysia or whether Malaysia has got a new Pakatan Rakyat federal government in Putrajaya with a new Prime Minister in the person of Anwar Ibrahim," said Lim.

Lim also expressed surprise that Najib had pleaded for "more time to show results" of the government's various plans even after its political legitimacy ended on March 8, 2013, five years to the day the last general election was held.

"How long more does Najib really need to enable him to show the success of his four-year National Transformation Programme when recent weeks have furiously produced one example after another of the abject failures of his alleged 'transformation' agenda," he asked.

Last week, prominent constitutional lawyer Tommy Thomas said that while BN could legally remain the Federal government up to June 28, 2013, five years and sixty days since the current government was sworn-in in 2008, its political legitimacy and moral authority are in question.

Meanwhile, news portal Malaysiakini quoted DAP 'insiders' as saying that Lim (left), who is the Ipoh Timor member of parliament, will announce his move to Johor for the coming polls.

DAP Youth leader Anthony Loke had earlier said that a “major announcement” would be made at DAP's 47th anniversary celebration in Skudai, Johor, on Monday.
