When you hit the sack, don't be a 'Clock watcher', 'Doomsayer' or 'Fixer'.
You know that you need this sleep tonight but you are not getting it, you fear that you won’t wake up fresh the next day. As the fear rises, adrenaline begins to pulse throughout your system and you feel more awake. Sleep eludes you for yet another day.
Since the deepening trance states of hypnosis represent a stage midway between alert consciousness and sleep, it is easy to see how basic relaxation induction can smooth the transition from waking to rest. But hypnosis will be most effective if you first examine your specific sleep pattern and remove any external causes that may be contributing to sleeplessness
There are some serious deterrents to a good night’s sleep. They may be so obvious or simple that you think they don’t require mentioning.
However, hypnosis cannot be expected to work in conditions that require medical attention or professional counseling that have not been cleared up. These are alcohol or chemical dependency, chronic depression, chronic twitching or aching of your legs when in bed, snoring accompanied by the need to gasp for air, etc.
Another reason you don’t sleep at night is because you consume too many stimulants during the day. You don’t expect after including caffeine in large amounts in your daily diet and then slip into a state of total relaxation at night. Also, you don’t sleep if you took a nap during the day or participate in stimulating physical or mental activities just prior to going to bed.
You don’t sleep if you mentally associate your bed with activity. If your bed is the place for business calls, work on report, letters, watch TV, sew or balance your checkbook, your bed will be viewed as a center of activity instead of a center of relaxation. Your surrounding environment should invite total rest and relaxation.
Your physical state should be relaxed and when you go to bed your mind must also begin to relax, to let go off the problems and events of the day. Don’t be a “Clock Watcher” and keep count of the time or a Doomsayer who says: “I can’t sleep and I am completely miserable” or a “Fixer” who says: “I have got to figure out a way.”
With hypnosis, positive statements during a trance are suggested to reprogram your subconscious to replace old mental patterns with new positive, relaxing, mental activity.
A hypnotic suggestion or idea can be used to motivate the subconscious that you will go to sleep quickly, that you will have a restful sleep and wake up in the morning feeling refreshed.
So…just let yourself drift and float, drift and float into a sound and restful sleep. As you drift deeper and deeper, drifting into a comfortable, cozy, restful sleep, your body feeling heavy and relaxed as you sink into you bed, so relaxed, just drifting into sleep, sleep..Sleep.
