KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7, 2015:
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, too, was challenged during his time as Prime Minister, but instead of interfering in the democratic process, he faced it head on.
Writing on his blog, Chedet, Dr Mahathir recounted the time Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and Tun Musa Hitam tried to remove him from his Prime Minister post.
“There were some divisions who nominated Tengku Razaleigh and Musa Hitam as president and deputy president respectively. I didn’t consider them my enemies who needed to have action taken against them.
“There was no restriction against their nomination as that was the way of democracy,” Dr Mahathir wrote, further alleging that Umno president (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) had disallowed him from meeting Umno leaders and members despite there being no official challenge to his post yet.
He alleged the presence of threats in the instructions barring Umno members from meeting him, claiming that the threats consisted of possible disciplinary action, investigation and expulsion.
The nation’s longest serving premier claimed that at the same time, those who reprimanded Najib were accused of sabotage and attempts to topple the Umno president, who was elected democratically.
He claimed that the trend, whereby those brave enough to prompt initiation of an investigation against Najib were the ones who ended up being investigated, had changed the nation’s democratic image into one akin to a police state.
Dr Mahathir accused the Barisan Nasional (BN) led government of being no longer democratic by stopping its members from participating in political-based lectures, barring them from even attending talks featuring him.
“Although I am still an Umno member and was the Umno president, I am perceived by the current party leaders as an enemy to the party that I led for 22 years.”

– HARAKAHDAILY 5/10/2015

Amanah only serves as Umno’s lifeline, says PAS No. 2

PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man says PAS will continue to field candidates in all seats contested because it is the party's right to do so.
Adjust Font Size:
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3, 2015:
The establishment of Party Amanah Negara, approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Oct 1, would only serve as a lifeline for Umno and Barisan Nasional, said PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Tuan Ibrahim said Amanah’s formation would only delay the process of change in political awareness among the people.
He said the splinter party existed as a result of an internal crisis in PAS and it would not achieve the level of support enjoyed by the main party.
“The internal turmoil has led to the people’s disappointment because a new party is formed every time a crisis emerges. This will split the opposition votes, which is what BN wants.
“For example, during the emergence of Semangat 46, which broke off from Umno, the party managed to win a few seats, but this did not affect the strength of Umno.
“This could also be the same for Amanah. This would only create a tussle between opposition parties in the 14th General Election,” he said in a statement today.
Tuan Ibrahim said the allocation of seats before the next general election will be a major problem for the opposition.
He stressed that PAS would not compromise with Pakatan Harapan due to the mistreatment it received from DAP and it will not accept Amanah, which is taking in PAS members and “seizing” the buildings and headquarters belonging to PAS.
“When PAS worked with PKR, most of the seats given by PAS to PKR, included party workers and machinery.
“If PAS joins PH, it means PAS will again hand over the seats to a new party, and this is unlikely to happen, unless DAP or PKR are willing to give away their seats to Amanah. “
Tuan Ibrahim added PAS would continue to field candidates in all seats contested because it is the party’s right to do so.
“If the opposition parties field candidates in the seat (we contest), it will then only serve as a lifeline for Umno and BN.”
