KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3, 2015:
The establishment of Party Amanah Negara,
approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Oct 1, would only serve
as a lifeline for Umno and Barisan Nasional, said PAS deputy president
Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Tuan Ibrahim said Amanah’s formation would only delay the process of change in political awareness among the people.
He said the splinter party existed as a
result of an internal crisis in PAS and it would not achieve the level
of support enjoyed by the main party.
“The internal turmoil has led to the
people’s disappointment because a new party is formed every time a
crisis emerges. This will split the opposition votes, which is what BN
wants.
“For example, during the emergence of
Semangat 46, which broke off from Umno, the party managed to win a few
seats, but this did not affect the strength of Umno.
“This
could also be the same for Amanah. This would only create a tussle
between opposition parties in the 14th General Election,” he said in a
statement today.
Tuan Ibrahim said the allocation of seats before the next general election will be a major problem for the opposition.
He stressed that PAS would not compromise
with Pakatan Harapan due to the mistreatment it received from DAP and
it will not accept Amanah, which is taking in PAS members and “seizing”
the buildings and headquarters belonging to PAS.
“When PAS worked with PKR, most of the seats given by PAS to PKR, included party workers and machinery.
“If PAS joins PH, it means PAS will again
hand over the seats to a new party, and this is unlikely to happen,
unless DAP or PKR are willing to give away their seats to Amanah. “
Tuan Ibrahim added PAS would continue to field candidates in all seats contested because it is the party’s right to do so.
“If the opposition parties field candidates in the seat (we contest), it will then only serve as a lifeline for Umno and BN.”
